What You'll Actually Learn

Six focused modules that build on each other—starting simple, getting smarter

1

Understanding Cash Flow

Track income and expenses for a month. Most people have no idea where their money actually disappears to. We'll fix that.

2

Building Categories

Group spending into buckets that make sense. Housing, groceries, transport, fun money. Keep it simple, keep it realistic.

3

Setting Limits

Create spending boundaries that you can actually stick to. No deprivation, no guilt—just awareness and intentional choices.

4

Emergency Funds

Start small. Even 0 makes a difference when the car breaks down. We'll show you how to automate savings so you don't forget.

5

Debt Strategies

Tackle credit cards and loans with methods that match your situation. Snowball, avalanche, or something in between—your call.

6

Future Planning

Think ahead without overthinking. Set goals for big purchases, holidays, maybe retirement. Break them into monthly chunks.

Program Timeline

Our autumn intake begins September 2025. Classes meet twice weekly for three months—enough time to build habits that stick.

Weeks 1-2: Foundation Setup

Learn tracking tools and start recording everything. Boring but essential. You'll thank yourself later when patterns emerge.

Weeks 3-5: Category Development

Analyse your spending data and create personalized categories. We'll work through your actual numbers—not theoretical examples.

Weeks 6-8: Budget Building

Set realistic limits based on your income and priorities. Test them out, adjust as needed. Budgets should evolve with you.

Weeks 9-10: Safety Nets

Create automated savings systems and tackle debt strategically. Small steps that compound over time.

Weeks 11-12: Long-Term Vision

Set achievable goals and map out the next twelve months. Leave with a plan you'll actually use.

Who's Teaching

Real experience from someone who's been helping Australians manage money since 2011

Portrait of Finnian Redpath, lead budgeting instructor

Finnian Redpath

Lead Instructor

Finnian spent a decade working with everyday Australians at community financial counselling services before switching to education. He's seen every budgeting mistake imaginable—and made plenty himself early on. His teaching style skips the jargon and focuses on what actually works when you're juggling rent, groceries, and unexpected bills. Outside class, he volunteers with a Darwin financial literacy program and still geeks out over spreadsheet formulas.
